Orlando arrests for camping surge to 25 in 1st month of new homeless law
Encampment at NorthTerry Avenue at West Central Boulevard in Parramore, on Monday, February 6, 2023. A rush of more than $600,000 in federal grant money is coming to Orlando, in hopes of housing much of the population of a homeless encampment along Terry Avenue in Parramore. For more than a year, the encampment has grown to the frustration of city officials and neighbors, but also a sign of the state’s affordable housing crisis, and the fallout of drying up pandemic rental assistance dollars. The money will be used by the Christian Service Center to house between 20 and 30 people for between six months and a year. (Ricardo Ramirez Buxeda/ Orlando Sentinel)
