The News Collaborative of Central Florida is a collective of independent local news outlets and aligned partners working toward a more informed and engaged Central Florida. It grew out of the Central Florida Journalism Ecosystem Summit, created in 2024 by Central Florida Public Media, Central Florida Foundation, and Oviedo Community News.

The News Collaborative of Central Florida is a partnership of news outlets and community organizations working together to produce journalism that serves Central Florida communities.
The Collaborative brings together journalists and partners with different areas of expertise, resources, and perspectives to address important issues that affect the region. By working together, participating organizations can pursue reporting and projects that might be difficult for any one organization to undertake alone.
The Collaborative was created to strengthen local journalism and increase the amount of high-quality, public-service reporting available to Central Florida communities.
Many of the issues facing Central Florida — such as housing, education, transportation, public safety, elections, the environment, and government accountability — cross geographic and organizational boundaries. Collaboration allows news organizations to share knowledge, resources, and reporting efforts while reaching broader audiences.
The News Collaborative brings together participating news organizations and community partners from across Central Florida.
Each organization remains independent and retains its own editorial identity. Partners may contribute journalists, expertise, reporting, community connections, financial support, distribution, or other resources depending on the project.

Collaborative projects are developed around shared public-interest goals. Participating organizations work together to identify important issues, coordinate reporting, share information and resources, and distribute journalism through multiple platforms and outlets. The structure of each project may vary depending on its goals and the organizations involved.
In 2026, journalists from Central Florida Public Media, Oviedo Community News, Winter Park Voice, VoxPopuli, WKMG News 6, Osceola News-Gazette, and Orlando Sentinel worked together to produce a shared voter guide to better inform and prepare voters before the midterm elections.
In 2025, participating news organizations produced more than 150 shared stories about Homelessness and Florida’s Camping Ban.
No. The Collaborative is designed to support and strengthen local journalism, not replace independent news organizations.
Participating organizations continue to operate independently. Collaboration allows them to work together on projects that can benefit from shared resources, expanded reporting capacity, and broader distribution.

Participation may take different forms depending on the project, including contributing reporting, journalists, expertise, distribution, or other resources.
Yes. Community organizations and other nonprofit or nonpartisan partners may be able to participate depending on the project and the nature of their involvement.
Community partners can contribute valuable expertise, connections, and insight into the issues affecting Central Florida residents. However, participation does not give outside organizations any editorial control.
